This five-hour workshop covers various introductory topics in structural equation modeling, starting with path modeling with continuous and categorical variables. Topics include:

  1. Assumptions and data considerations
  2. Model creation, identification, and evaluation
  3. Multiple regression vs path analysis
  4. Testing mediation
  5. Confirmatory factor analysis

Examples will be demonstrated using R with R-Studio and the Lavaan package. Syntax and output will be provided for all examples covered in the workshop. Registration and payment can be made directly online. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Cheques and Email Transfers. We offer discounted pricing for graduate students and post-doctoral fellows.

Student / Post-Doc
  1. Assumptions and data considerations
  2. Variance / covariance matrix decomposition
  3. Notation use in SEM
  1. Model creation, identification and evaluation
  2. Multiple regression vs. path analysis
  1. Testing direct and indirect effects
  2. Adding moderators
  3. Testing moderated mediation
  4. Nested model comparison

This workshop is for anyone interested in gaining an introductory understanding of structural equation modeling.

Participants are encouraged to have a working knowledge of multiple regression. No prior knowledge of R or R-Studio is required.

For this hands-on workshop we will be working with both R (using R-Studio). For those who are not working with any specific software, we provide all syntax and output for each example to allow for participation without the use of any software.

The R software is available as a free download here, and the R-Studio software can be downloaded for free here.

Handout materials and datasets will be provided.

Registration will continue until the workshop begins. If you need to cancel your registration, please contact us at

Cancellations up to 30 days prior to the event will be refunded at 100%. Cancellations between 11 and 29 days prior to the event will refunded at 50%. There are no refunds for cancellations made 10 days before the event begins. Should you need to cancel your registration please keep in mind that we do not cancel any other arrangements you have made such as hotel accommodations.

If you registered by credit card, a 5% transaction fee will apply to any cancellation.
